i've finally taken images of the christmas gift i made for a very good friend that's into "cafe racing", a theme that fully influenced my choice of materials and color. thanks to kate for being such a sport. isn't she pretty? like she could be a part-time model.

a very restrained example of what i plan to do with the silk

a sherbert whirlwind...

the plan my friends... the plan... though continuously snowballing... is to
1. hand dye/paint raw silk
2. print one of my patterns on the silk
3. create garments

while simultaneously...

1. weaving large spans of "cloth" quite delicately and lace-like
2. weaving some of the silk into the piece, pulling some of the silk so it creates this whimsical, 3 dimensional effect (will attach an additional photo shortly)
3. add on top of the silk garments

the idea is you will be able to see the pattern in various spots on the garment through the webbish weaving.

think she was featured on notcot awhile ago, but i just saw her work for the first time and it's beautiful!

too cold to wear skirts? i think not.

i'm sick of pants and i'm making a new skirt. now that i've blogged about it, i'm being held accountable. see, that's how it works. it worked for my halloween costume...

and i don't care that i live in new hampshire where i'm supposed to don the seasonal attire of smart wool socks with my birkenstocks. or that i work at a company full of engineers that wear the same thing they left high school in (well there are a few exceptions of course, there are always exceptions).

i'm going to snuff out seasonal depression one skirt at a time. now if only the sun would come out.
